Bringing the message of peace home to students at Centennial High School is a Peace Pole, placed in front of the school auditorium/cafeteria. Four benches are placed in a circle around the pole.
On the pole’s four sides is the message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” written in four languages: English, Spanish, Arabic and Vietnamese.
“This aligns with our school mantra, creating a culture of achievement through Coyote pride, honor integrity and excellence,” assistant principal Adam Wolfe said. “It’s a good symbol and a place for reflection and a reminder for our students.”
Principal Christina Lopez-Lira echoed Wolfe’s remarks, adding, “We talk to our students about becoming what you want to make of your life. That’s what we hope our community understands – Coyote pride on campus, off campus, in the community – the kind of culture we want to ingrain.”
The pole was purchased and installed by Peoria Rotary Club in honor of the Rotary Interact Club on the Centennial campus. The Eclub of Arizona supported the funding for this pole along with several other Rotary clubs throughout the Rotary District of 5495 (Arizona).
Interact Club treasurer Georgina Santibanez said, “I believe with the Peace Pole, the different languages (shows) acceptance of cultural differences, a multitude of people.”
Interact Club president Makayla Steel said, “It’s not just working with one part of the world, you work with everyone.”
The Peace Pole was be dedicated 8:30 a.m. Sept 21 at the Centennial campus, 14388 N. 79th Ave.
